March 2025 - Guernsey's clearing banks join forces to support Guernsey Community Savings
I am proud to have played a role in making this possible.
Life-changing funding for Guernsey Community Savings (GCS), a local charity which supports people who otherwise would not have access to crucial banking services, will now be provided by Guernsey’s clearing banks, following negotiations between GCS, the banks and the States of Guernsey.
Deputy Nick Moakes, Finance Sector Lead for the Committee for Economic Development, said: "This is a great example of how government, business and the third sector can work together. In this case, it will help people who do not have access to essential banking services that most of us take for granted. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the banks for coming together to support this important local initiative.”
Peter Neville, Founder and Chair of GCS, added: "The backing of Guernsey's leading banks is an exciting and positive development for GCS and, most importantly, for those vulnerable members of our society who we serve. This support will empower us to extend our reach and positively impact the lives of many islanders who struggle to access traditional banking services."
A representative for The Association of Guernsey Banks (AGB) added: "We're proud to come together in support of GCS. Ensuring everyone has access to essential banking services is fundamental, and this agreement is a significant step forward in addressing financial exclusion in Guernsey."
February 2025 - Guernsey – Why does MONEYVAL matter?
The recent MONEYVAL assessment ensures that Guernsey retains its position as one of the world’s leading financial centres. The MONEYVAL evaluation is not only excellent news for the Finance and Professional Services sectors, it also benefits the wider economy and everyone on the island. We should be proud of our Financial and Professional Services sectors - they help to make Guernsey a better place, both economically and socially.
December 2024 - Guernsey Housing Forum meets for the first time.
I am pleased to announce that the Guernsey Housing Forum has now been formed and met for the first time in December 2024. You can read about why I wanted to set up the Forum further down this page. Independent from Government, the forum is made up of senior representatives from Government Committees, the construction industry and business. A housing forum might not result in spades in the ground tomorrow, but it will result in a more joined up approach to solving the island’s current and future housing needs.

It was a pleasure to welcome both Lord Ponsonby of Shulbrede, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice and the Italian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Inigo Lambertini.

The Italian Ambassador’s visit provided us with an opportunity to share insights into Guernsey, as a financial centre, as well as its history and culture.
June 2024 - Create a Housing Sector Forum
To help resolve the current housing crisis and plan for the island’s future housing needs, I think that government should engage more with the construction sector, the wider business community and islanders in general.

October 2023 - A busy month, attending both the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester and the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool.
I was part of a small group who represented Guernsey at both the Conservative and Labour Party Conferences.
They were incredibly useful and provided me with opportunities to engage with UK politicians right across the political spectrum. We attended meetings with MPs to explain our constitutional position and economic relationship with the UK. Building relationships with Ministers, shadow Ministers and other members of the House of Commons and House of Lords is important to Guernsey as we prepare for future opportunities and challenges.
I also met Ambassadors and senior embassy officials from around the world, including many whose countries are involved in ongoing trade discussions with the UK and by extension, Guernsey.
Guernsey was represented at all three UK party conferences and they provided us with plenty of opportunities to build relationships and promote Guernsey’s history, our future interests and our economic aspirations.
September 2023 - Another busy month, hosting visitors to Guernsey and attending Sustainable Finance Week.
In September, Guernsey hosted The House Of Commons Select Committee and, separately, the Spanish Ambassador to London, His Excellency Mr José Pascual Marco Martínez. Both events provided us with an opportunity to build relationships and discuss topics of mutual interest.
Sustainable Finance Week also took place in September. The event focused on sustainable finance and innovation with some excellent keynote speeches and informal panel sessions. The event also gave us an opportunity to showcase Guernsey’s stunning natural environment and first class hospitality.

April 2023 - Guernsey to participate in new free trade agreement.
Guernsey should benefit from new trans-Pacific trading agreement known as the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Since the UK's withdrawal from the EU, the Bailiwick has become increasingly internationally facing and it is essential to ensure that the islands continue to be well placed and globally recognised alongside the UK, Jersey and the Isle of Man as adhering to international standards within a highly competitive and sometimes fractious global trading environment.

They provide a fresh start for those trapped in debt, who meet strict eligibility criteria.
