About Nick Moakes

After being elected as a States Deputy in October 2020, I joined a number of committees and sub-committees including The Committee for Economic Development and the States Trading Supervisory Board. I am also proud to sit on the board of Guernsey Finance, chair Guernsey’s Finance Sector Forum and play an active role in External Relations.

Originally based in London, my career in Financial Services spans more than 30 years, during which time I have worked for some of the world’s leading Financial Services companies.  An analytical and creative thinker, I have strong financial and commercial skills and I am used to negotiating complex agreements and managing major projects.  I have a proven track record of bringing people together, building consensus and working across highly matrixed organisations.

At Visa, I was responsible for managing a portfolio of banks and financial institutions during a period of great change and innovation. I helped my clients develop a number of market leading propositions and oversaw a range of complex projects including platform migrations and product launches.

At American Express, I managed teams responsible for key client relationships across a diverse range of business sectors including travel, retail, and restaurants.  As Director of Travel Related Industries, I became an ‘airline industry expert’ and regularly presented to business leaders at client and industry events across Europe.

I am married with two children and my wife comes from a family with strong ties to Guernsey.  I am passionate about the island’s future and have spent time studying Guernsey’s economy and demographics. I launched Unlock Guernsey’s Potential, several years ago and have published a number of articles, some of which you can see on this website if you click the News and Media tab.   Since being elected as a Deputy, I have not had as much time to write articles but, when I can I will put them on this website. Finally, I have also included a number of updates on the News and Media tab so you can see some of things that I have been up to this term.
